We are pleased to announce the first edition of the ECSECO Academic Paper Competition, the first initiative of its kind in the field of space economy and commerce in Europe. The competition offers a unique opportunity for young researchers, doctoral and master’s students, to submit their work and win the ECSECO Best Paper Award!

The 2023 ECSECO Paper Competition was composed of two rounds. In the first-round participants submitted their abstracts in one chosen category from the two available:
Space Economy
Space Business and Commercialisation
The top 3 submissions in each category qualified for the second and final stage of the competition. The finalists were asked to submit their full papers and invited to present at the Commercial Space Days conference in Luzern on 11-12 September 2023. All the finalists who submitted their papers were granted 2-Day Congress Pass for Commercial Space Days and two-night accommodation during the event. The author of the best paper in each category won the ECSECO Best Paper Award!
Evaluation
Competition entries were evaluated by juries composed of renowned academics in the field. The finalists had the unique opportunity to receive direct feedback from the jury after the presentation at Commercial Space Days. Please note that the ECSECO Secretariat was not part of the evaluation jury.

Invitation of selected applicants for the conference. From now on, the selected applicants must finalise their papers, which they will present at the conference.

Jury
Requirements (please see the rules and conditions for detailed information)
Abstract length 250-400 words
Paper length 3000-4000 words
Submissions should lead to a conclusion and not present an ongoing research project.
Submissions must be a result of an original work.
Applicant must be an active member of the European Centre for Space Economy and Commerce (The application is continuously open – applicants can apply any time before the submission of their abstracts.)
Authors must be currently enrolled in a master’s or PhD programme in a higher education institution in one of the ESA or EU Member States.
Please note that if the work has more authors only one of them can submit it, and present it, if qualified for the final.
